ALPS Mountaineering Extreme 3 Tent: 3-Person 3-Season

ALPS Mountaineering Extreme 3 Tent: 3-Person 3-Season

Great Price "Great tent at an awesome price. Shipping was fast and I received it without damage. This tent is a little on the heavy & bulky side for a backpacking tent, although could easily be used in that capacity. Also, it would be a little cramped inside with 3 large people. I used it on trip along PCH. It is easily packed in my car with my other camping gear. Set up and teardown was simple and easy. First night, I set up in the dark- no issues. I recommend having more durable stakes as the ones that are included are on the flimsy side. It comfortably fit me, my wife, and my dog. First night it rained- no leaks. Second night, rain & wind - again, no issues. The rain fly doesn't have much for ventilation although the entire tent is pretty solid and appears to be able to withstand some extreme weather. Bottom line - this is a great tent at an awesome (and unbeatable price). Buy it!"

Great tent for the money "I purchased this tent after years of being cramped in an REI base camp two-person tent. I was looking for additional room for all my riding gear, a full-coverage fly and enough headroom to kneel upright inside. Overall, I am very pleased. For the price, it’s a great tent. It’s pretty easy to set up solo with the color coded pole ends and corner straps. It has oodles of room for my gear and the extra wide sleeping pad I use. It even has plenty of room for my Kermit chair and the headroom to use it comfortably. Sitting out a rainstorm isn’t quite so claustrophobic and getting dressed is so much easier with all that headroom. Two minor issues lower my rating: The pole ends are not secured to the poles other than by the shock cord. They came loose every time I took the tent down, as I pulled them from the grommets in the tent straps. I never had this issue with my REI tents (it may be a feature) and I find it an annoyance, although not a deal breaker. The footprint (floor protector) is too small. Or, at least, the grommets in its corner straps are misplaced. I assume the footprint’s corner strap grommets are intended to receive the pole ends. However, if the pole ends are placed in the grommets, the floor won’t stretch out to its full dimensions. Pull the pole ends out of the footprint’s grommets and the poles spread wider, stretching the floor to its full size. Those grommets need to be further out the straps, something I may take care of myself. Finally, a small cautionary note: to keep weight down, the fabric used in this tent’s construction is very thin. Careful precautions will be required to keep it from punctures, tears, and other damage."
